Do You Snore? We Can Help

If you or your spouse has a problem with snoring, you may have learned to ‘live with it’ but the fact remains that heavy snoring or sleep apnea can create a huge hindrance to your quality of life.

Audible snoring often necessitates that your partner sleep in a completely different room.  It can also be a sign of more significant problems such as allergies, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, congestion, smoking, or genetic factors. The good news is that it’s not ‘un-fixable.’

What is snoring?

Snoring is caused by the vibration of respiratory tissues within the nose and throat.  These vibrations are caused by turbulent airflow within narrowed passageways.  The result is a loud and unpleasant grating sound.

Harmful effects of snoring

Snoring not only keeps others awake, it keeps you awake as well.  It is not uncommon to wake up from the sounds of your own snoring!  Having continuous bouts of disturbed sleep during the week inevitably leads to chronic fatigue – which in turn causes decreased concentration, moodiness, irritability, and depression.  The extreme form of snoring is called obstructive sleep apnea or OSA – a condition characterized by 100% obstruction of the airways by upper respiratory tissues.  In this case, one’s blood oxygen levels actually decrease to the point where the brain has no choice but to send the signal to ‘wake up!’ and start breathing again.  Not all snorers have OSA but for those that do, it can be quite a burden on daily living.
